Krav Maga as a system needs to get better at the clinch.
That's a broad statement, and I can't claim it applies to everyone. There are a number of Krav Maga instructors, inside and outside our Krav Maga Alliance organization, who are doing really good clinch work. But as a whole, the system needs to refine and improve its understanding of the standup grappling situation. We rely too heavily on knees to the groin.
I know what some of you thought as you just read that: "No groin, no Krav Maga!" And it's true that groin strikes change the bad guy's behavior, and they do alter the dynamics of the clinch. But if you don't understand the basic mechanics and footwork of the clinch, then you won't be able to take advantage of his reactions.
At Alliance Culver City, and indeed at KMA schools around the world, we are including more clinch work so that you'll be able to manage all aspects of the close fight. I hope your self defense training includes it, too!
