Krav Maga teaches throws and sweeps at higher levels. These throws are very similar to the throws you might learn in judo. In fact, for judo, our throws are very basic. So why does Krav Maga teach them at blue belt and brown belt instead of starting earlier? Simple: it's risk versus reward. The reward for a successful throw is great -- you get to hit them with the Earth! But the risk if you fail is great, because you end up in a bad position. If you don't have the tools to manage that new position, you might be in trouble. A kick to the groin or a punch have much less risk, so Krav Maga starts with those simpler techniques, and add in the throws once you have a solid foundation of self defense.
